Milka Stanković, layer dough production, Banjaluka

Two years ago, Milka started the layer dough production on the ground floor of her family residence. She had noticed that there was a big market for this kind of product, and she decided to start the business. So far, she has managed to expand the business to a solid extent, she has employed two workers, and in the next year she is planning to introduce home-made noodles as a new product. Together with her husband, she supports six kids and as she says, from their business they can earn one very good salary, and in the layer dough facility she also manages to complete a part of her household chores.

Aziza Bećirhodžić, weaving business, Kakanj

Four years ago, within the women's association of Uzok from Kakanj, Aziza went for a weaving machine use training project, and after she had mastered the skill, she purchased a weaving machine herself and started her own small business. Today, Aziza produces big and small carpets, table cloths, clothing... exposing her products in fashion shows and expositions within the regular activities of the association, and she also does customized orders for boutiques buying off her products. She lives with her husband and through her business she contributes to increasing the household's income.


Branka Škondrić, private trade shop, Banjaluka

Branka has been in the mixed commodities trading business for three years now, using a leased space in Banjaluka. Initially, as she says, her father helped her a lot, and recently they have expanded the business to include a new site too, so they are very satisfied. Branka says that by daily work and effort one can have a solid sustenance from this kind of business and thus contribute to the household budget.

Nagorka Govedarica, kindergarten, Lukavica

Nagorka is a self-supporting mother, a children's pedagogue by profession. Before the war in BH, Nagorka had worked for 15 years as a nanny in a state-owned kindergarten. After the war ended, Nagorka decided to start up her own kindergarten, and opened it on the ground floor of her family residence. Today Nagorka takes care about 30 children, to whom she provides the basic pedagogic education, and she says that she has managed to provide in her offer food and a playing ground for «her» kids, and that through her effort and work she has gained big trust among the parents in the local community.
